Grenoble is an ancient Roman city situated at the foot of the Alps, at the confluence of the Drac into the Isère River. It is surrounded by mountains with the Chartreuse to the north, the Vercors to the west, and the Belledonne range of the Alps to the east. At the foot of the Chartreuse massif lies La Bastille. It was first fortified during the middle ages, and the hill is covered with 19th century fortifications. It was quite a hike to the top but the view was worth it.
